The Doctrine of the Law
The Law
Alliance Sealing
After a husband and wife have entered lawful civil marriage, received their Couple Sealing, faithfully lived the covenants already required of them, and been prepared for the Higher Law, they may receive an Alliance Sealing when Jesus Christ personally calls and directs them to do so.
Through the initiatory and endowment, they were anointed to become kings and queens, priests and priestesses unto the Most High God. Through the Alliance Sealing, Jesus Christ authorizes them as King and Queen and gives them direct priesthood accountability to Him within their own Household Kingdom.
This does not mean the Alliance Sealing gives them their household, family, property, children, finances, or ordinary household government for the first time. Those stewardships already belong to the husband and wife within their Household Kingdom. The Alliance Sealing changes the order under which they exercise the priesthood within that stewardship.
Before receiving the Alliance Sealing, their exercise of priesthood remains under presiding priesthood authority. The Prophet holds that presiding authority for the Kingdom of Zion and delegates the appropriate administration through the bishop. After the Alliance Sealing, the King and Queen become directly accountable to Jesus Christ for the ordinary exercise of priesthood within their own Household Kingdom. They no longer need to go through the Prophet or bishop for the ordinary priesthood administration Christ has entrusted to their household.
Their authority remains bounded by their own Household Kingdom. It does not include the sealing power, authority to create or alter doctrine for Zion, authority to govern another Household Kingdom, or any kingdom-wide stewardship reserved to the King of Zion or another authority established by the Lord. Becoming King and Queen does not make them rulers over other households. It establishes their direct priesthood accountability to Jesus Christ within the stewardship that is already theirs.
Joining Household Kingdoms into the Covenant Family
The Alliance Sealing also joins distinct Household Kingdoms together in a real marital covenant without merging them.
Those joined across kingdom borders become Allied Spouses and are true spouses before God. These relationships are not symbolic, experimental, temporary, secondary, or lesser marriages. Allied Spouses are to grow in genuine love, fidelity, affection, sacrifice, service, patience, belonging, marital unity, and covenant loyalty toward one another.
The Household Kingdoms themselves remain distinct. An Alliance Sealing does not create another civil marriage or another Household Kingdom between Allied Spouses. It does not transfer household government, property, finances, debts, children, residence, legal obligations, parental stewardship, or priesthood jurisdiction from one Household Kingdom to another.
Alliance also does not create an automatic right to another Household Kingdom's property, money, financial information, residence, children, labor, time, private stewardship, or other resources. These things may be freely shared in love as circumstances and stewardships allow, but what is freely shared does not become an entitlement merely because an Alliance Sealing exists.
Zion therefore becomes one family without making every Household Kingdom one household.
Proven Stewardship Before the Alliance Sealing
No person or couple should receive greater stewardship merely because they say they are willing to live it. The Lord requires evidence that those seeking the Alliance Sealing are faithfully caring for the blessings already placed in their hands, and that evidence is found in the actual condition of their marriage, family, finances, health, home, conduct, private integrity, and willingness to obey Jesus Christ.
This does not establish perfection as the standard. It establishes proven stewardship, which means there should be a recognizable pattern of faithfulness, repentance, responsibility, self-government, sacrifice, honesty, and real effort to live the law already received. The question is not whether someone has completed every struggle; the question is what they are doing with what the Lord has already given them.
A Loving and United Household Marriage
The first and most important stewardship to examine is the Household marriage itself. A husband and wife preparing for the Alliance Sealing should already have a loving relationship marked by loyalty, fidelity, affection, communication, and the ability to work through difficulty together. They are not expected to live without disagreement, but they should not be living in continual contention, hostility, resentment, emotional separation, competition, betrayal, or unresolved disorder.
A healthy Household marriage shows that both spouses know how to repent when they are wrong, forgive when they have been injured, repair what has been damaged, counsel together, and remain loyal when life becomes difficult. They should be able to hear one another, speak honestly, reach unity before moving forward in disputed household matters, and protect the marriage rather than continually threatening or abandoning it. If they are repeatedly hiding things from one another, refusing counsel, living separate emotional lives, or violating one another's trust without meaningful repentance, the foundation is not ready to carry greater marital stewardship.
The Alliance is not a substitute for reconciliation. A couple should first demonstrate that they can faithfully care for the marriage God has already given them before asking Him to enlarge it, because adding more relationships does not cure selfishness, rivalry, dishonesty, or unresolved contention. Those weaknesses must be confronted in the Household marriage rather than carried forward and multiplied into the Covenant Family.
Financial Stewardship
Those preparing for the Alliance Sealing must demonstrate that they know how to govern money and temporal resources responsibly. The requirement is not wealth, a particular income, an expensive home, large savings, or complete freedom from debt; the requirement is honest stewardship over the resources and obligations the Lord has actually placed in their hands.
A household should be living within its means as much as reasonably possible, paying lawful obligations, working honestly, following a real budget, avoiding needless consumption, living the Law of Consecration according to its covenant standing, and making honest progress toward financial stability. Mortgages, student loans, medical debt, business obligations, or other legitimate burdens do not by themselves establish unworthiness, and a family carrying significant debt may still demonstrate excellent stewardship when that debt is under control and being faithfully paid.
Financial disorder is different. Mountains of uncontrolled debt combined with continued unnecessary spending, ignoring creditors, refusing lawful obligations, continually creating new unnecessary debt, concealing financial problems from a spouse, or expecting other people to rescue a household from choices it refuses to correct are not signs of proven stewardship. A person who is genuinely struggling but budgeting, paying what they can, correcting past mistakes, living frugally, and doing everything reasonably within their power to become stable is in a very different condition from someone who simply makes excuses for financial chaos.
The governing question is not how much money a household possesses, but whether the household is faithful with what it has received. Greater stewardship should not be added where existing temporal responsibilities are being willfully neglected.
Health and Bodily Stewardship
The body is also a stewardship from God, and a person preparing for the Alliance Sealing should take that stewardship seriously. Greater covenant responsibility may include additional spouses, children, service, priesthood administration, travel, work, and the burdens of building Zion, so those asking the Lord for more responsibility should be honestly caring for the physical life through which they will carry it.
This includes obedience to the Word of Wisdom, reasonable nutrition, appropriate physical activity according to ability, sufficient rest, personal hygiene, and responsible medical or dental care when such care is reasonably available. Recreational drug use is not compatible with this standard. Choosing to get high, using recreational drugs, abusing controlled substances, remaining habitually intoxicated, or deliberately damaging the body for pleasure demonstrates that the person is not treating the body as a stewardship entrusted by God.
The same honesty applies to obesity and other serious health problems. Obesity is not something to simply excuse, celebrate, or declare irrelevant as though the condition of the body has nothing to do with stewardship, but body size alone does not tell the entire story and is not by itself a judgment of worthiness. Medical conditions, disability, medication effects, injury, metabolic problems, poverty, emotional struggles, previous habits now being corrected, and other circumstances can make weight and health extremely difficult to change.
There is a real difference between struggling and striving on one hand, and neglecting and making excuses on the other. Someone who is obese or facing another serious health problem but is honestly changing harmful habits, exercising according to ability, improving nutrition, seeking appropriate care, following the Word of Wisdom, and doing what they reasonably can to improve their health may be demonstrating faithful stewardship even while the struggle continues. Someone who knows their habits are harming the body, refuses to correct them, continually excuses the neglect, and insists that they should not be expected to care for their health is not demonstrating the same thing.
The standard is not a particular weight, body shape, athletic ability, or number on a scale. Jesus Christ does not require a perfect body before giving greater stewardship, but He does require honesty, self-government, and a sincere willingness to stop knowingly abusing or neglecting the body He has given.
Care of Spouse, Children, and Existing Stewardships
Greater marital stewardship must not be pursued while the people already depending upon the household are being neglected. A husband and wife preparing for the Alliance Sealing should be caring faithfully for one another, for their children or dependents, and for the responsibilities already attached to their Home Kingdom.
Parents should be providing love, instruction, protection, discipline, affection, time, stability, and righteous example according to their circumstances. A person should not be pursuing additional spouses while continually failing the spouse and children already entrusted to them, nor should children experience the Higher Law primarily as the reason their parents became distracted, unavailable, financially unstable, or emotionally absent. Righteous increase should make the household more loving and secure, not less responsible.
Existing labor, legal obligations, property, education, service, and other stewardships must likewise be governed with honesty. The Lord does not require every household to look alike, but He does require people to care for the work He has already placed before them instead of seeking greater responsibility while routinely abandoning lesser duties.
The Spiritual Condition of the Home
The spiritual condition of the Household Kingdom matters because a family preparing for greater covenant stewardship should already be building a place where the Spirit of the Lord can dwell. A useful question is what it feels like to enter their home: whether Christ is truly first there, whether prayer and worship are real, whether affection and repentance are practiced, and whether the ordinary atmosphere reflects peace, cleanliness, order, service, and righteousness.
This does not mean the home must be expensive, perfectly decorated, silent, spotless at every moment, or free from the ordinary noise and disorder that come with family life. The temple provides the pattern in a different sense: everything there is ordered toward the Lord, and a Household Kingdom should likewise be becoming a sanctuary where people can recognize that Jesus Christ is honored. A home filled with continual screaming, hatred, deliberate filth, pornography, substance abuse, dishonesty, cruelty, uncontrolled contention, or open rebellion against God is not prepared for enlargement merely because the people living there want an Alliance Sealing.
The condition of the home should reveal the direction of the household. Weaknesses may still exist, but the general movement should be toward greater light, peace, holiness, unity, and the presence of the Lord.
Appearance, Grooming, and Representation
Those preparing to represent Jesus Christ in greater stewardship should care how they present themselves. The standard is not fashion, wealth, expensive clothing, physical beauty, or conformity to worldly ideals; it is cleanliness, modesty, dignity, reasonable grooming, and the willingness to represent the Lord as a people of light.
Basic care matters. A person should bathe, care for their teeth and hair, maintain ordinary hygiene, and wear clothing that is clean, modest, and appropriate according to their means. Poverty is not unrighteousness, and simple clothing is not inferior clothing, but deliberately presenting oneself as though cleanliness, dignity, and basic self-respect do not matter is inconsistent with the stewardship expected of those preparing to become Kings and Queens under Christ.
The issue is not whether someone can afford expensive things. It is whether they care enough to properly maintain what the Lord has placed in their hands and whether their outward presentation reflects the inward order they profess to be building.
Conduct and Character
A person prepared for the Alliance Sealing should increasingly look like a disciple of Jesus Christ in ordinary conduct. Their language should be clean, their word should be dependable, and their relationships should show a growing ability to refuse gossip, slander, evil speaking, grudges, manipulation, retaliation, unnecessary contention, and the habit of living in continual offense.
The people of Zion are to become menders rather than destroyers, healers rather than wounders, and peacemakers rather than people who continually create disorder around themselves. This standard applies at home, at work, in public, online, among friends, while angry, while disappointed, and when nobody important appears to be watching. A person who can speak reverently in an interview but cannot govern their tongue or temper in ordinary life has not yet demonstrated the character that the interview is meant to recognize.
Private Integrity
The strongest evidence of covenant readiness is often found in what a person does when nobody else is watching. Someone may appear faithful in meetings while privately living another life, but the Lord sees the hidden conduct that no interviewer can discover without confession.
Secret pornography, concealed relationships, hidden addictions, undisclosed debt, false financial records, private cruelty, deliberate deception, or a second life kept from a spouse demonstrate that the person has not yet learned the integrity required for greater stewardship. Those seeking the Alliance Sealing should therefore examine the parts of life that are easiest to hide and make them honest before God, because public righteousness without private truth is not proven faithfulness.
Private integrity also includes doing right when obedience brings no social reward. Honesty in business, faithfulness to a spouse, truth in financial dealings, clean conduct while traveling, and obedience when no Church leader is present reveal whether the person actually belongs to the Lord or merely knows how to appear prepared before other people.
Faithfulness Rather Than Perfection
None of these requirements mean that only perfect people may receive the Alliance Sealing. If perfection were the requirement, nobody would receive it; the standard is whether a person or couple has established a faithful foundation and is honestly working with Jesus Christ in the areas where weakness remains.
A faithful couple may still disagree, a faithful household may still carry debt, and a faithful person may struggle with obesity, illness, disability, temptation, anxiety, old habits, or another difficult condition. The distinction is whether they are striving, repenting, correcting, repairing, and moving forward with the Lord, or whether they are defending disobedience and making excuses for refusing the work He requires. Someone who falls and repents is in a different condition from someone who defends the fall, just as a person who struggles but keeps working is in a different condition from someone who refuses to work.
The Lord is not asking whether the person has already become everything they will ever become. He is determining whether the foundation is secure enough for Him to place greater stewardship upon it, and whether the person has shown that when He reveals something that must change, they will actually change it.
Authorized Engagement and Preparation
No person is to enter the Higher Law merely because they desire an additional spouse, are romantically interested in someone, desire sexual relationships, or find the celestial family order appealing.
Jesus Christ must first call and prepare the person.
In the ordinary order, Alliance courtship does not begin until the husband and wife have entered lawful civil marriage, received their Couple Sealing, faithfully lived the covenants already required of them, demonstrated the stewardship required for the Alliance Sealing, and reached the place in their covenant progression where Jesus Christ authorizes them to begin pursuing an Alliance relationship. Romantic interest does not create that authorization, and a person may not begin the relationship early merely because they believe they will eventually receive the Alliance Sealing.
Exception: Receiving the Alliance Sealing Before the Couple Sealing
The ordinary and governing order remains that a man and woman receive the Couple Sealing, establish their Household Kingdom, prove their stewardship together, and afterward receive the Alliance Sealing when called by Jesus Christ. This ordinary pattern remains the standard by which preparation for the Alliance Sealing is understood.
There may nevertheless be rare circumstances in which the Lord specifically directs that an individual receive an Alliance Sealing before receiving the Couple Sealing. Such a circumstance may involve someone who has sincerely sought a righteous Household marriage but has not yet received it, a person whose previous marriage has ended, or another condition known to Jesus Christ that makes an exception necessary for His purposes. The exception is not claimed by preference and must be established through both the personal and governing revelation required by this Law.
A person receiving this exception remains within their own separate personal household and is not absorbed into another Household Kingdom merely because they become an Allied Spouse. The Alliance Sealing makes the Allied marriage real, but it does not fulfill the person's eventual need for a Household Spouse and Couple Sealing. When the Lord provides that relationship, the person is still expected to establish their own Household Kingdom according to the ordinary order.
Before an Alliance relationship begins, those involved are required to learn the Law, accept the covenant order they are preparing to enter, repent where repentance is needed, and make the changes necessary to live it. Only after that preparation and proper authorization may they enter an authorized engagement and begin courtship.
Dating, flirting, romantic pursuit, and emotional courtship are therefore not to precede the Lord's order and then seek His approval afterward. The relationship begins with Jesus Christ and obedience to Him.
The authorized engagement is a period for dating, learning one another, building trust and affection, and preparing for the sealing. Sexual relations do not belong to the engagement period. The chastity and courtship boundaries established by the Higher Law remain binding until the Alliance Sealing has actually occurred.
An authorized engagement may not continue indefinitely. If the sealing has not occurred within the period established by the Law, the authorization expires and the relationship must stop until proper authorization is received again.
The Newlywed Year
An Alliance Sealing creates a real marriage immediately, but it does not mean every aspect of the relationship is expected to become fully developed immediately.
The first year following the Alliance Sealing is a protected newlywed period. Courtship continues during this year. Allied Spouses are to spend time together, learn one another, establish trust, strengthen friendship and affection, become secure in their place within the Covenant Family, and allow deeper marital relationships to develop in wisdom and peace.
The sealing itself does not create immediate entitlement to romantic affection or sexual intimacy. Relationships are to progress gradually according to love, trust, consent, the direction of the Spirit, and the order established by the Higher Law.
The purpose of this period is not to keep Allied Spouses at a distance. It is to give real marriages time to grow upon a foundation of trust rather than pressure, fear, novelty, jealousy, or haste.
Progressing Together
Alliance relationships do not develop in isolation from the marriages and relationships already present in the Covenant Family.
When greater romantic closeness, affection, or sexual progression will directly affect other spouses, those directly affected are to be at peace with that progression before it occurs. A relationship is not to move forward merely because the two spouses involved are ready while another directly affected spouse is fearful, displaced, resentful, pressured, or unprepared.
When one spouse needs additional time, those who are stronger or more prepared are to serve rather than push ahead. They are to strengthen trust, reassure belonging, listen honestly, address fear or insecurity in righteousness, and help establish the unity necessary for the family to move forward together.
This protection is not permission to use jealousy, resentment, fear, or unwillingness to grow as permanent control over the lawful relationships of others. Every spouse has a responsibility to sincerely seek greater faith, trust, charity, unity, and willingness to receive the marriages Jesus Christ has established.
The purpose is that no person be abandoned or forced. The Covenant Family grows together through service, patience, revelation, and love.
Agency, Consent, and Marital Inclusion
Alliance Sealing never removes agency.
No person acquires ownership of another spouse's body, affection, time, sexuality, labor, residence, property, finances, or private stewardship. No spouse may be compelled, pressured, shamed, manipulated, threatened, spiritually coerced, or made afraid to say no.
Consent remains necessary as relationships develop. A spouse may need time to build trust, safety, affection, and genuine marital love. The covenant requires patience with that process.
At the same time, consent is not to be used as a declaration that a lawful spouse will simply never be received as a spouse. Allied Spouses are real spouses, and those entering this covenant agree to sincerely grow toward full marital inclusion with those whom Jesus Christ lawfully joins to them.
This includes spouses of either sex. A person may not receive some lawful spouses fully while permanently rejecting others because of gender, race, color, physical appearance, wealth, poverty, disability, former condition, social standing, or personal preference.
The standard is therefore neither compulsion nor permanent exclusion. The standard is willing growth in charity. Spouses are to become capable of receiving one another in genuine marital love, affection, trust, fidelity, and, in due season, lawful sexual fellowship according to mutual consent and the order of the Higher Law.
The Law of Sarah
The Alliance Sealing places Household Spouses under the Law of Sarah.
The Law of Sarah requires each Household Spouse to desire the righteous increase Jesus Christ gives the other rather than merely tolerate it. A husband seeks the blessing and increase of his wife. A wife seeks the blessing and increase of her husband.
This includes the spouses, children, relationships, joy, and covenant increase the Lord lawfully gives them.
Jealousy, rivalry, possession, resentment, comparison, rejection, and partiality are therefore contrary to the purpose of the Alliance covenant. Household Spouses are to learn to rejoice in one another's righteous increase and to desire the blessings of the other as sincerely as they desire their own.
The Law of Sarah does not authorize pressure, selfish sexual desire, or the pursuit of relationships for personal gratification. It requires charity: each spouse seeks the righteous increase of the other before Christ.
Protecting the Home Kingdom
Alliance Sealings enlarge the Covenant Family, but they do not diminish the importance of the Household marriage.
A person's Household Spouse and Home Kingdom remain a primary earthly stewardship. Allied relationships are never to be used to escape problems in the Household marriage, replace the Household Spouse emotionally, avoid reconciliation, neglect children or responsibilities, or create another relationship that becomes more important than faithfulness to the Home Kingdom.
If the Household marriage becomes wounded, divided, neglected, resentful, unsafe, or seriously out of order, outward romantic and sexual progression with Allied Spouses must pause while the Home Kingdom is repaired.
Allied Spouses are likewise not to use Household conflict as an opportunity to draw a spouse away from their Home Kingdom. They are to encourage repentance, humility, forgiveness, reconciliation, and renewed unity between Household Spouses.
The purpose of Alliance is to strengthen Household Kingdoms by joining them in love. It must never become a means of weakening the very kingdoms being joined.
Home Kingdom and Host Kingdom
A person's permanent Household Kingdom remains their Home Kingdom.
When a King or Queen visits or temporarily resides with an allied Household Kingdom, that household becomes the Host Kingdom. The visiting King or Queen remains King or Queen of their own Home Kingdom, but does not acquire authority over the Host Kingdom.
They are required to honor its Household Law, property, children, schedules, finances, government, responsibilities, and other stewardships without claiming jurisdiction that belongs to those who govern that household.
Alliance also does not justify draining one Household Kingdom for the benefit of another. Resources, time, labor, attention, and support may be shared generously, but they are to be shared in a way that preserves existing responsibilities and does not neglect the Home Kingdom.
Emotional closeness with an Allied Spouse must likewise strengthen the Covenant Family rather than create divided loyalty or an emotional relationship that displaces the Household Spouse.
Eligibility and the Law of Purity
Not every possible relationship is eligible for an Alliance Sealing.
Those who receive this ordinance must be lawfully eligible according to the generational order, the Law of Purity, and the other marriage restrictions established by the Higher Law.
No personal desire, romantic attachment, revelation claimed by an individual, or agreement between the persons involved can set aside those boundaries. The proposed relationship must be lawful under the order Jesus Christ has established before an Alliance Sealing may occur.
Children and Conception
The Covenant Family is expected to receive children without jealousy, rivalry, resentment, rejection, or partiality.
Children born into a Household Kingdom remain under the primary parental stewardship of that Household Kingdom. Allied Spouses may love, nurture, teach, bless, support, and care for those children according to the relationships and order established within the Covenant Family, but Alliance does not transfer the governing parental stewardship that belongs to another Household Kingdom.
A child is never to be treated as lesser because of the spouse through whom the child came, the biological parentage of the child, or the Household Kingdom into which the child was born.
Those entering the Alliance covenant must also be willing to receive the possibility of children through Allied Spouse relationships as the Lord directs.
Conception across Household Kingdoms is not governed by rivalry, competition, private desire, or entitlement. Where the Lord gives specific direction, His direction governs. Where He has not specifically appointed the matter, conception is to proceed prayerfully, in unity, and with the free consent of those directly affected according to the Higher Law.
Biological parentage does not by itself transfer Household parental government from one kingdom to another. The child is to be received in truth and love while the Household stewardship into which the child is born remains intact.
Covenant Faithfulness and Consequences
The Alliance Sealing is a covenant and carries continuing obligations.
Serious sin is governed by the serious-sin requirements already established in the public Law concerning baptism and repentance. Serious sin is not privately resolved by the person who committed it and is not treated merely as an ordinary lesser violation of the Alliance covenant. The person must work through the bishop and the established repentance process before the matter can be considered resolved.
Other failures to live the Higher Law may not rise to the established category of serious sin but may still place Alliance covenant privileges in jeopardy. A person who repeatedly disregards the Law, refuses correction, neglects the obligations of the Alliance covenant, or continues in lesser violations without meaningful repentance may be placed on probation and may have Alliance covenant privileges restricted while repentance and changed conduct are established.
Probation is intended to produce repentance, correction, and restored covenant faithfulness. It is not permission to continue violating the Law.
Persistent refusal to live the Alliance covenant can ultimately place the Alliance Sealing itself in jeopardy. The authority to revoke or restore an Alliance Sealing belongs to the King of Zion according to the order Jesus Christ has established.
The permanence of a person's Household Kingdom and lawful civil rights are not transferred to another person by such covenant discipline. Covenant standing and Alliance privileges are judged according to the covenant; civil and Household stewardships remain governed according to their proper order.
Interview Questions
Before receiving an Alliance Sealing, each person is to be interviewed by the Prophet.
All questions and requirements established for baptism and confirmation, the initiatory and endowment, and the Couple Sealing remain in force and are to be reviewed before proceeding to these additional questions. This includes the previously established requirements concerning faith in Jesus Christ, honesty, chastity, repentance from serious sin, Sabbath worship, the temple garment, sacrifice, consecration, care for the welfare of Zion, household faithfulness, and the other covenants already received.
The following additional questions determine whether the person has been personally called by Jesus Christ and is prepared for the priesthood order, marriages, stewardship boundaries, responsibilities, and covenant obligations that become applicable through the Alliance Sealing.
Each question is to be answered honestly before God.
The Personal Call of Jesus Christ
The Alliance Sealing is not entered merely because a person desires additional spouses, wishes to enlarge their family, or agrees intellectually with the Higher Law. Jesus Christ must personally call and prepare the person to receive it.
Share your testimony and the experience by which Jesus Christ personally called you to receive the Alliance Sealing. Explain how you came to recognize His direction and why you believe He is leading you into this covenant.
The Higher Law
Those who receive an Alliance Sealing are required to understand the Higher Law they are choosing to live. They must accept it as binding upon them within the Kingdom of Zion and remain willing to study and obey it as the Lord continues His work among His people.
- Have you read and studied the Higher Law in full?
- Do you accept it as the law of God that will govern you within the Kingdom of Zion, and are you willing to continue studying, living, and teaching it throughout your life?
Proven Stewardship
Receiving greater covenant stewardship requires more than understanding the Higher Law or desiring the blessings associated with it. The person and Household Kingdom should demonstrate a pattern of faithfulness over what Jesus Christ has already given them, including the condition of the Household marriage, financial stewardship, bodily stewardship, care of spouse and children, the spiritual condition of the home, personal conduct, outward care and representation, and private integrity.
These requirements do not demand perfection. The purpose is to determine whether the person is sincerely striving, repenting, correcting what needs to be corrected, and faithfully caring for the stewardships already received rather than excusing continuing neglect or rebellion.
- Is your Household marriage loving, faithful, united, and in good standing, and are you both able to repent, forgive, counsel together, repair conflict, and remain loyal to one another when difficulties arise?
- Is there any serious unresolved division, betrayal, contention, dishonesty, or other condition within your Household marriage that should be repaired before greater marital stewardship is added?
- Are you responsibly governing your income, spending, savings, debts, property, and lawful financial obligations, living within your means as reasonably possible, and honestly working to correct any financial disorder that remains?
- Are you faithfully living the Word of Wisdom and honestly caring for your body through reasonable nutrition, physical activity according to your ability, rest, hygiene, and appropriate healthcare, without recreational drug use, substance abuse, deliberate bodily neglect, or excuses for harmful habits you know should be corrected?
- If you are struggling with obesity, illness, disability, another serious health condition, or the consequences of previous neglect, are you honestly doing what you reasonably can to improve your health and care for your body rather than using the struggle as an excuse to stop trying?
- Are you faithfully caring for your Household Spouse, children, dependents, work, property, legal obligations, and the other existing stewardships the Lord has already placed in your hands?
- Is your home becoming a place where the Spirit of the Lord can dwell through prayer, worship, peace, cleanliness, order, affection, repentance, forgiveness, and righteous conduct?
- Are you maintaining reasonable cleanliness, modesty, grooming, hygiene, and personal presentation according to your means so that the way you care for yourself reflects the dignity expected of those preparing to represent Jesus Christ as Kings and Queens?
- Does your ordinary conduct demonstrate clean language, honesty, dependability, charity, self-control, and a growing ability to refuse gossip, evil speaking, grudges, manipulation, retaliation, and unnecessary contention?
- Is your private life honest before God and your spouse, including your sexual conduct, relationships, finances, addictions, media use, business dealings, and anything else that could be concealed from those interviewing you?
- Is there anything the Lord has made known to you that needs to be corrected which you are presently refusing to correct?
- Do you understand that these requirements are a standard of proven faithfulness rather than perfection, and can you honestly say that where weaknesses remain you are striving, repenting, and working with Jesus Christ rather than defending neglect or making excuses for refusing to change?
Becoming King or Queen Under Jesus Christ
Through the initiatory and endowment, you were anointed to become a king or queen, priest or priestess unto the Most High God. Through the Alliance Sealing, you become directly accountable to Jesus Christ for the ordinary exercise of priesthood within your own Household Kingdom.
Your household stewardship already belongs to you. The Alliance Sealing does not give you ownership or government of your family, home, children, property, finances, or other household stewardships. What changes is the priesthood order under which you administer within that household.
Before this sealing, priesthood administration remains under the presiding authority Christ has established through the Prophet and the authority delegated through the bishop. After this sealing, you will exercise the priesthood Christ has entrusted to your Household Kingdom directly under Him and answer to Him for its righteous use.
- Do you understand and accept the priesthood authority, responsibility, and direct accountability to Jesus Christ that you are preparing to receive as King or Queen within your Household Kingdom?
The Bounds of Your Authority
Alliance Sealing does not give you the sealing power, authority to create or alter doctrine, authority over another Household Kingdom, or jurisdiction over any stewardship Jesus Christ has not given you.
The King of Zion and his counselors continue to hold the kingdom-wide stewardships Christ has placed upon them.
- Do you accept these limits and agree to exercise priesthood and authority only within the stewardships Jesus Christ has actually given you?
- Do you sustain the King of Zion and his counselors in the kingdom-wide stewardship Christ has given them over the Higher Law, doctrine, covenant administration, public judgments, the sealing power, and the mysteries of Zion?
Authorized Engagement and Chastity
Alliance relationships are required to begin through the order established by the Lord rather than through unauthorized dating, romantic pursuit, or sexual desire.
- Have you been true to the Law of Chastity and refrained from sexual relations, romantic relationships, romantic conduct, or other intimate relationships with any person to whom you are not lawfully married according to God’s law?
- If any of those boundaries have been violated, have you fully disclosed the matter and completed every requirement of repentance before seeking this sealing?
Your Household Spouse and Home Kingdom
Your Household Spouse remains the permanent spouse of your Household Kingdom. Alliance does not replace that spouse, remove either of you from the Household Kingdom, or merge your kingdom into another.
- Do you understand and accept the permanence of your Household marriage and Home Kingdom as additional Household Kingdoms are joined to your Covenant Family?
- Are you committed to protecting, strengthening, and remaining faithful to your Household Spouse and the responsibilities of your Home Kingdom as your Covenant Family increases?
Receiving Allied Spouses Without Partiality
An Allied Spouse is a real spouse within the Covenant Family, but does not replace the Household Spouse or occupy the same household stewardship. The Household Spouse remains the permanent spouse of the Household Kingdom.
An Allied Spouse is nevertheless to be loved and received as a spouse. They are to be treated with fidelity, affection, tenderness, respect, service, patience, and covenant loyalty. They are not to be treated merely as a friend, companion, outsider, temporary relationship, or person of lesser worth.
- Are you willing to love each person Jesus Christ lawfully joins to you through Alliance Sealing as your spouse, to be faithful to them, cherish them, serve them, and receive them with genuine marital love while honoring the distinct place and stewardship of your Household Spouse?
The Law of Sarah
The Law of Sarah requires you to desire the righteous increase Jesus Christ gives your Household Spouse rather than merely tolerate it.
- Are you willing to seek and rejoice in the righteous increase of your Household Spouse, including the spouses, children, relationships, and blessings the Lord lawfully gives them, and to put away jealousy, rivalry, possession, resentment, comparison, rejection, and partiality?
The Newlywed Year and Progressing Together
The first year following an Alliance Sealing is a protected newlywed period in which Allied relationships continue to develop through courtship, trust, affection, service, and growing marital unity.
This joining requires patience. Elder Ulisses Soares once described the place in Brazil where the Solimões and Negro Rivers come together. The two rivers are very different in their origins, speed, temperature, and composition. Because of those differences, their waters flow beside one another for many miles before they gradually blend together and become the great Amazon River.
An Alliance between Household Kingdoms can be understood in a similar way. Two established households come together carrying different histories, relationships, habits, personalities, responsibilities, traditions, and ways of doing things. The Alliance Sealing joins them in covenant, but becoming one in love and trust does not happen simply because the ordinance has been performed. They must learn one another, serve one another, understand one another, and gradually grow together.
For this reason, relationships are not to be hurried. If your Household Spouse, the other person's Household Spouse, or another spouse directly affected by the relationship is struggling with the pace of its progression, you are to stop or slow down, patiently serve them, and meet them where they are.
You are not to move ahead and expect them to catch up afterward. Instead, you are to serve them, strengthen trust, listen to their concerns, reassure their place in the Covenant Family, and help establish the peace and unity necessary for everyone to move forward together.
Like those rivers, people who begin from very different places may need time before their lives flow together naturally. Patience during that process is not failure or evidence that the Alliance is wrong. It is part of learning how to become one. As spouses encourage, support, serve, and love one another, what initially feels unfamiliar can gradually become a united family stronger than the separate parts were before.
This protection is not permission to use jealousy, resentment, fear, or unwillingness to grow as permanent control over the lawful relationships of others. Every spouse remains responsible to sincerely seek greater faith, charity, trust, and unity and to continue moving toward the relationships Jesus Christ has established.
- Do you understand and accept the newlywed period and the requirement that Allied relationships develop gradually according to trust, consent, peace, and the order established by the Higher Law?
- Are you willing, when your Household Spouse, another Household Spouse, or another directly affected spouse is struggling, to stop, slow the progression of the relationship, patiently serve, meet them at their level, and help them move forward in peace rather than leaving them behind?
Agency, Consent, and Full Marital Inclusion
Alliance Sealing creates real spouses, but it does not create entitlement to another person's body, affection, sexual intimacy, time, property, money, labor, residence, children, or private stewardship.
Consent remains required.
At the same time, those entering this covenant agree to sincerely grow toward full marital inclusion with every lawful Household and Allied Spouse rather than permanently rejecting some spouses because of personal preference or gender.
- Will you honor the agency, consent, bodily autonomy, and stewardship boundaries of every spouse and refuse all coercion, manipulation, pressure, shame, or unrighteous control?
- Are you also willing to faithfully grow in love, trust, affection, and full marital inclusion with every lawful Household and Allied Spouse, regardless of gender, according to the timing, consent, charity, holiness, and order established by the Higher Law?
Protecting the Home Kingdom
Allied relationships are to strengthen rather than weaken the Household marriage.
- Will you refuse to use an Allied relationship to escape Household conflict, replace your Household Spouse emotionally, avoid reconciliation, neglect the responsibilities of your Home Kingdom, or weaken the marriage and household stewardship already entrusted to you?
- If your Household marriage becomes wounded or seriously out of order, are you willing to pause outward romantic or sexual progression as required and first seek repentance, reconciliation, trust, and restored unity within your Home Kingdom?
Home Kingdom and Host Kingdom
Your permanent Household Kingdom remains your Home Kingdom. When you are present within another allied Household Kingdom, you remain King or Queen of your own Home Kingdom but do not acquire authority over the Host Kingdom.
- Do you understand and accept that Alliance Sealing gives you no governing claim over another Household Kingdom, including its Household Law, property, finances, children, residence, resources, or other private stewardships?
- Will you share time, affection, labor, resources, and support across the Covenant Family in a way that strengthens the family without neglecting your Home Kingdom or creating divided loyalty?
Lawful Eligibility
Those who receive an Alliance Sealing are required to obey the Law of Purity and remain within the boundaries the Lord has established for marriage and sexual relationships.
- Will you obey the Law of Purity and keep your relationships within the boundaries the Lord has established?
Children and Conception
Children throughout the Covenant Family are to be received without jealousy, rejection, rivalry, resentment, or partiality. Household parental stewardship remains with the Household Kingdom into which the child is born.
Conception through Allied relationships is to occur only according to the Lord's direction, the Higher Law, and the free consent required by that order.
- For Women: Are you willing, as the Lord directs and according to the Higher Law, to receive children through the husbands He lawfully joins to you and to conceive, carry, bear, nurture, and love all your children without partiality?
- For Men: Are you willing, as the Lord directs and according to the Higher Law, to give children through the wives He lawfully joins to you and to love every child given through you with the tender feelings of a father throughout your life?
- Will you receive every child brought into your Household Kingdom without partiality and will love, nurture, protect, teach, and care for that child within the stewardship of your household?
- Will you love and support children connected to your Household or Allied Spouses through another spouse without jealousy, rejection, distance, resentment, rivalry, or improper claims over the parental stewardship of another Household Kingdom?
- Do you accept that conception across Household Kingdoms must remain governed by the Lord's direction, proper consent, and the Household parental order established by the Higher Law?
Covenant Faithfulness and Consequences
Serious sin is governed by the established serious-sin repentance process and must be worked through with the bishop. Other violations of the Higher Law may result in probation or restriction of Alliance covenant privileges when a person is not faithfully living the obligations they have received.
Continued refusal to repent and live the Alliance covenant can ultimately place the Alliance Sealing itself in jeopardy.
- Do you understand that receiving this sealing places you under continuing covenant accountability and that persistent refusal to live the Higher Law may result in probation, restriction of Alliance covenant privileges, and, where repentance is refused, the lose of the Alliance Sealing itself?
- Are you willing to receive correction, repent when you fall short, and bring forth the changed heart required to remain in full covenant standing?
Final Readiness
- Do you understand the priesthood order, marital relationships, agency, stewardship boundaries, Household responsibilities, obligations toward Allied Spouses and children, and covenant accountability that become applicable through the Alliance Sealing?
- Do you consider yourself worthy, willing, know that you have been personally called by Jesus Christ, and are prepared to receive this sealing and faithfully live the Higher Law within the Kingdom of Zion?
